Basics of how to "get followers" and promote your site

We ended our previous post with the following . . . The next thing to do is to work on generating "the all important" page views.  I have a few ideas about this that are FREE, not time consuming and that I really think will work.  The first thing you will need to do is . . .
----------------------------------------------------------------------------open a twitter account like the one that you will go to when you click on the picture below.
The name of the Twitter account is EngrGraphics Teacher @ MCEGgraphics.

There are several "social media" outlets that we COULD use (and we will try others later), but I will use "Twitter" as the first step in this process.  I have noticed that all of the famous people that have "many followers" used this fact to send commercials to everyone that followed them.  If I want to send commercials promoting my site, then I need to generate "followers" so this can happen.

If I was famous and if I had 500,000 followers then I would be no different than you because I would still want to make more money so I would use my Twitter account to tweet commercials which would go to the 500,000 who followed me in an effort to convince them to buy my new book etc).

Step #1 I opened the Twitter account "EngrGraphics Teacher" and I began with the standard TWO followers that you get when you open a Twitter account.

I teach both high-school and college drafting, and in my classes I use the following "blog" to post my lessons, lectures and tutorials.  I use my Tweet account in the same way most teachers use the "Remind 101" program.  I have my students "follow" the EngrGraphics Teacher and this is how I message them regarding assignments etc).

So far I am using this type of system (very effectively) to operate my classes and post assignments that I never have to look for, never have to redo.  Plus any edits that I make are always made in real time and are available immeadiately because everything is always in the same place 24/7/360.

When you go to this "Tweet account" that I just made, you will notice "the dress".  I chose the "dress thing" because it was "the hot topic" of the day.  There were three students in one of my classes that had twitter accounts.  I had them "follow" the new EngrGraphics Teacher @ MCEGgraphics.  I then twitted the dress tweet with the caption "White and gold, or blue and black.  Retweet for white and gold.  Favorite for blue and black."  I then included the link to the drafting teacher blog that I use to post my lessons in an effort to promote what we are doing in class among the parents/friends of my students.

I did this in two different classes using three students in each class as a competition to see which class could get the most "retweets",  I have no grand expectations regarding this first step.  I am certian that this step will only produce limited results because generally speaking it is almost impossible to motivate the general population to retweet.

My purpose in doing this first step and not having grand expectations that it will produce "hundreds of followers" is because I fully realize that there is more work to be done.  The ground work has been laid - the links have been established - and it is easy to see how all the pieces fit together.  The next step . . . motivating the tweeters . . . (I have a few ideas about this, and I will share them with you on the next post as we learn how to do this together)

My solution to the motivation thing is . . .

Free Stuff is RIGHT HERE

The universal question is "how can I make money without any investment."  In other words how can I make FREE money.  Well this blog is an experiment to show you how to do just that.

This blog that you are viewing is free.  It is provided by Blogger.com.  If you click on the image above you will go to a link and can sign up.

To make money with a web based business or a blog like this one the following has to happen:  1) You will need to generate page views.  2)  You will need something of interest that will gain attention by attracting viewers.  3) Meet the requirements of an ad placement company like "adsense" (more about this later).

The way to generate "a following" is what I will discuss in my next post.  But for now follow the link to blogger.com and DO NOT pay for a domain, just pick one that is sort of related to your interest.  Perhaps a "how to" - "best recopies" - "real good lessons for school" . . .

Get comfortable with your idea and add a few items of interest to your "words of wisdom" like I did here with the "freebies".  This will peek the interest of the first few visitors you have and it will give them a reason to return.

If you have a good idea, don't play your ace in the first hand.  The old "cliffhanger" TV series worked by gaining your interest and motivating you to "tune in next week" which your grandparents did.  My cliffhanger to get you interested enough to "tune in next week" is my mention of HOW TO GENERATE PAGE VIEWS . . . tune in next week to find out how, you will not believe how easy it will be . . .

The next thing to do is to work on generating "the all important" page views.  I have a few ideas about this that are FREE not time consuming and that I really think will work.  The first thing you will need to do is . . .
